AFI Mortgage was founded in 1996 by Richard and Roxanne Baggett.

HISTORY

Having enjoyed a successful career in the automotive industry, the Baggetts were eager to find new ways to support their community and create their legacy.

After the Savings & Loans Crisis of the 1980s crippled the mortgage financing industry, the Baggetts saw the perfect opportunity. At the time, local banks were the leading source for home financing and that meant credit spectrum was very narrow. Seeing a need to expand the availability of mortgage financing and home ownership in Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana, the Baggett’s opened American Fidelity Inc, acting as mortgage broker out of their Westlake, La home. The business was an instant success due to the Baggett’s relentless work-ethic and world-class salesmanship. Mr. Baggett wanted to be known for providing his clients the “Absolute Lowest Rate” available, coining the term Home of the Absolute Lowest Rate. By the latter part of 1996, AFI Mortgage moved into its first commercial space, located at 313 Alamo Street, Lake Charles, La, on the same property its headquarters remain today.

At AFI Mortgage Company today, we share the same vision in which the company was founded.
